Summary: When it comes to getting what you want in life and your writing – it all comes down to two things. Your Priorities and Your Habits.
What Is Your Writing Dream?
It’s time to write about your dream writing life. What does it look like? What does it feel like? Don’t hold back. Write it all down.
My writing dream is to make a livable income off of my books and content. To wake up every morning and work Monday through Friday 9-5 to create new stories and content for people on the web and have weekends off. To say that I work from home and pay my bills with my creations.
To be able to be just a content creator.
Your Current Habits and Priorities
Now it’s time to take a look at where you’re at currently. This will be your baseline. This is where you’re starting from. (And wherever you are is totally fine.) In each column, make a list of your current habits and priorities. With the priorities, list them in the order of what yours currently are, from most important to least. (Be honest here—no one will see it.)
Current Habits | Current Priorities |
Wake up and Browse YT or Twitch for Hours Take naps (plural) Write 400 words and call it a week Film one video and call it a month | Keeping up with latest gossip Losing Weight (Or watch videos about losing weight) Writing a first draft that might one day reach publishing stage Figuring out how to market a book. |
Your New Habits and Priorities
Now take your lists from above and compare them to the “what you want” write up from page one of this worksheet. Are your habits and priorities aligned with your dream life? Write about that in the space below.
New Habits | New Priorities |
Write 1000 words every morning Film and Edit a video or two every week Remain off FB and Twitch until finished for the day Create a consistent routine for working out and logging calories | Finishing first draft of my book to start new one Building my author brand on YT, Insta, and Twitter Creates ways to market a book Working out and making better food choices |
Your Commitment
Now that you’ve laid it all out, you can see you’ve got work to do (or not—if you have habits that support your goals, great! Keep going!). So, what are you committed to? What habits are you going to step up and take on? How are you going to realign your priorities? Write out your commitment in the space below.
I’ve committing to not turning on youtube in the mornings and instead reading either a chapter of a book or a chapter of a writers workbook to get my morning flow going, to get inspired. To filming the videos in batches and creating consistent content on all platforms.
