Summary: Confidence comes from doing something over and over again, putting in the word and seeing the results for themselves.
Exercise: Grab your journal and brainstorm all the ways you feel confident. Then write about the ways you don’t and what you’re going to do to change that.
I’m confident I can write a book that people enjoy, because I already have.
I’m confident that I can put up consistent content for my author platform because I’ve been doing so with newsletters and now with my yt channel.
I’m not confident I will ever get a publishing deal, because of the stack of rejections I’ve already accumulated.
I’m not confident that I’ll ever be able to live off my writing because of how long it took me to get the first book out.
I’m not confident that my writing will ever garner a huge audience because of all the things I’m lacking.
How to get over these things I’m NOT so confident about? I don’t let the rejections get to me. Loads of people get rejections on a daily basis. Classic books got tons of rejections before finding their audience.
I know if I want to live off of my writing I’ve got to put the work in. That means putting more work out there and creating a back list. Getting over the anxiety of talking about my work and learning marketing and all those other skills.
And with more work out there, more readers will find my work. I’ve just got to put in the time and effort.
